Bayfront SpringHill Suites and Residence Inn Opens on San Diego Waterfront
Lane Field North, a Marriott dual-branded SpringHill Suites and Residence Inn officially opened to the public with a grand opening on April 7, 2016. The 18-story building has 400 rooms, more than 23,000 square feet of retail space and 365 parking stalls. Integrated Design Engineers is the structural engineer of record, John Portman & Associates is the architect and Hensel Phelps Construction Company is the general contractor. The building features a 3-story tall public art sculpture, “Ripples,” installed directly onto the building structure. The sculpture consists of 643 aluminum fins individually cut and assembled to resemble the patterns on maritime tide charts. Washington-based David Franklin is the artist.
“We’ve been working with a strong team to develop Lane Field since 2012. It’s great to see the north site open because it’s our first major building in San Diego” says David Hornsby, principal and partner of Integrated Design Engineers.
Lane Field South, a high-rise hotel by InterContental Hotels Group is currently in design. The building is planned to rise 20 stories above the waterfront with 400 rooms, more than 29,000 square feet of retail space and 686 underground parking stalls. Integrated Design Engineers is the structural engineer of record, John Portman & Associates is the architect and Hensel Phelps Construction Company is the general contractor.
Both Lane Field North and Lane Field South are located on the site of the first stadium for the San Diego Padres Major League Baseball team who played there 1936-1957.
